About

Some photographers document what happens. I try to capture how it feels.

That distinction matters to me. It shapes every decision I make with a camera – where I stand, when I wait, which moment I choose. I’m not interested in technically perfect images that leave people cold. I want the photograph that makes someone stop scrolling, catch their breath, and feel something they weren’t expecting to feel.

That approach led to an invitation to contribute photography to This Is How It Feels – a published anthology of lived experiences of mental and emotional distress from across Aotearoa New Zealand. Working alongside author Heidi and a remarkable group of contributors was one of the most meaningful projects of my life. It confirmed something I’d suspected: that photography capable of reaching people emotionally has real value beyond the frame.

It also led, more recently, to a wedding booking from someone who saw my dragon boat nationals work and felt something in it. That’s the thread I follow.

I’m a Christchurch-based photographer working across events, sports, portraiture, and documentary work. I bring serious equipment, careful preparation, and a genuine commitment to understanding what a moment means to the people living it – not just what it looks like.

If you’re looking for imagery that is technically accomplished but emotionally safe, I’m probably not your photographer. If you want work that actually moves people, let’s talk.
